Baby sounds: observe, comfort and keep notes
A recording can preserve a moment; it cannot reliably explain what a newborn wants.
Look at the context
Crying can accompany several ordinary needs, including feeding, rest, a nappy change or comfort. Look at what has happened around the episode. A device recording alone cannot determine the cause or rule out illness.
Keep a simple note
Record the time and your own observations. Write what you tried and whether it seemed to help. The notebook deliberately avoids labels such as “hungry with 92% confidence”. If you are worried, share your observations with a qualified clinician.
Know when notes are not enough
Seek urgent medical help if a baby is struggling to breathe, turns blue or grey, is difficult to wake, or seems seriously unwell. A persistent unusual cry also deserves medical advice. Never shake a baby. Do not wait for an app analysis before getting help.
