Listen, record and try again gently

Recording a word can help a family listen together without turning speaking into a harsh test.

Start with a useful word

Pick a familiar word, play its pronunciation and say it together. Use the slow button when it helps. A child’s accent or developing speech should not be treated as a failure.

Let the parent start recording

Microphone access begins only after a tap. PlayABC keeps the recording in the current browser session and lets you replay it. Download it only if you want a copy; closing the session removes the unsaved recording.

Understand recognition limits

Optional browser word recognition may use an online service and can mishear young children. It reports the words the browser recognised without giving a made-up accuracy score. If it is unavailable, simple recording and playback still support practice. A newborn’s sounds are not translated into words or needs.
